The Budget Analogy

Working memory is limited. You have a fixed budget of "mental RAM" (roughly 4 chunks of information). Cognitive Load Theory breaks this spending into three types. CLN optimizes the balance between them.

ANALYSIS: Cognitive Load Types

    ─── 1. EXTRANEOUS LOAD (The Waste) ───

= Definition: Effort wasted on processing the format
= Analogy: Navigating a confusing map

    . Sources in Prose:
        - Filtering filler words
        - Parsing complex sentences
        - Searching for the main idea

+ CLN Impact: Reduces to ZERO
→ The operator IS the meaning

    ─── 2. GERMANE LOAD (The Investment) ───

= Definition: Effort directed toward understanding (Schema building)
= Analogy: Actually building the house

    . Process:
. Connecting new info to old
        . Memorizing relationships

    + CLN Impact: Maximizes investment
→ The Ladder visually maps the Schema

    ─── THE COGNITIVE BUDGET ───

    . Reading Prose:
        = Budget: 100%
        - Extraneous: 70% (Waste)
        - Germane: 30% (Understanding)
        ! Result: Cognitive Overload

    . Reading CLN:
        = Budget: 100%
        - Extraneous: 5% (Scanning operators)
        + Germane: 95% (Processing logic)
        + Result: Deep Understanding

The Shifting Balance

Most modern work involves processing text. Emails, specs, documentation. If 70% of your brain power is spent just finding the sentence subject, you have barely enough left to understand the content. CLN shifts the balance. It removes the "UI friction" of text.

CLN lets the brain spend its limited RAM on what matters: The Idea.
