The Mother of All Biases · Feb 2026
Confirmation Bias
Confirmation Bias is the default operating system of the human
mind. We favor info that confirms our beliefs and discount evidence that
challenges them. CLN forces you to capture disconfirming evidence with equal
weight.
01/The Three Faces
= Biased
Search: Asking questions designed to get a
"yes".
= Biased
Interpretation: Twisting data to fit prior
stances.
= Biased
Memory: Remembering successes, forgetting
failures.
02/Why It Persists
. Cognitive
Ease: Confirming feels good (Dopamine).
. Identity
Protection: Challenging beliefs feels like an
attack.
!
Groupthink: In teams, this bias scales into
collective blindness.
03/CLN: The Corrective Lens
Structural
CLN neutralizes bias by demanding a balanced structure:
+ Evidence
FOR: The confirming data.
- Evidence
AGAINST: Mandatory disconfirming data.
?
Falsification: "What would prove me wrong?"
*
Self-Test: Can you eliminate confirmation bias?
|| No, it's
hardwired. You can only build systems (like CLN) to
mitigate it. ||
04Sample Analysis
=
Hypothesis: Remote work reduces productivity.
+ Microsoft study:
collaboration hours decreased.
- Stanford study:
13% increase in output.
? Disproof: A
meta-analysis showing net positive results.
.
Result: Performance is context-dependent.
