Zettelkasten
Zettelkasten (slip-box) is a method developed by sociologist Niklas Luhmann. The core idea is
not just storing notes, but creating a system where notes communicate. CLN
implements this through atomic lines and horizontal classification.
01/The Luhmann Principles
= Atomicity: One idea per note/line.
= Connectivity: Notes must link to other
notes to create emergence.
= Autonomy: Each node must be
understandable without its neighbors.
02/CLN Native Support
Operational
How CLN v1.4 automates the slip-box:
. Atomic Lines: CLN forces you to break
thoughts into discrete semantic units.
. Tags (#): Acts as the "Horizontal
Axis" connecting disparate notes.
. Operators: Provide immediate context
(Goal, Risk, Fact) for autonomy.
03/Emergent Insight
The Zettelkasten suggests connections you didn't plan:
| You tag a note #entropy
in a Physics project.
| Later, you search #entropy and find an old note on Economics.
* The Spark: A new connection between
thermodynamics and markets emerges.
04The CLN Advantage
+ Human & AI Ready: Unlike heavy
software, CLN is plain text and AI-parsable.
+ Implicit Graph: No need for complex
visual maps; the structure is in the text.
* Self-Test: Is Zettelkasten just an
archive? || No. It is a communication
partner. If it doesn't challenge your thinking or suggest new ideas, it is just a folder. ||
