First Principles
! Reasoning from the ground up, not by analogy @ Aristotle / Musk
A cook follows a recipe. A chef understands ingredients. First Principles Thinking is the act of stripping away assumptions until you reach irreducible truths.
01/Definition Root Thought
= First Principles: The first basis from which a thing is known.
= Deconstructing a problem into fundamental parts and rebuilding from scratch.
02/The Contrast
BY ANALOGY
- "X is like Y, so do what Y did."
- Inherits historical baggage.
- Fast, but limited by what already exists.
FIRST PRINCIPLES
+ "What are the irreducible components?"
+ Builds from fundamental truths.
+ Slow, but allows for revolutionary solutions.
03/CLN: The First Principles Syntax

CLN forces this mindset through its very structure:

= Definitions: Force you to say what something IS, not what it is "like."
? Questions: Expose exactly where you are relying on an unproven assumption.
! Constraints: Define the hard physical or logical boundaries.
04Destroy to Discover
* Don't look at what others did. Write a CLN block.
* Define the truths, list the constraints, and see what remains possible.
= The notation is the path from assumption to truth.
