Semantics
In computing, Syntax is the grammar. Semantics
is the meaning. Most notations focus on how text looks; CLN is designed to
ensure that every line carries an explicit, unambiguous role, maximizing the
"payload" of your thinking.
01/The Syntax/Sense Divide
- Syntax
(Rules): Focuses on form. "Make this bold."
"Follow the comma rules."
+ Semantics
(Sense): Focuses on intent. "This is a Risk
(!)." "This is an Essence (=)."
*
Goal: Eliminate nonsense that is grammatically
correct but empty.
02/The Problem with Prose
Ambiguity
Natural language is "semantically leaky":
- Implicit
Logic: "We should probably fix this." (Is it a
task, a suggestion, or a warning?)
-
Padding: Words that only exist to satisfy
grammar rules, not to add meaning.
03/Semantic Density
PROSE
"I think this might be a risk because the
server could potentially fail soon."
CLN
! Server failure risk #urgent
04Explicit Semantic
Roles
*
Tokens: CLN operators act as semantic tokens
that answer "What is this?" before the eye even reads the word.
+ AI
Processing: LLMs skip grammar parsing and move
straight to logical reasoning.
*
Self-Test: Is "!" just a symbol for danger?
|| No. In
CLN semantics, it is a contract that defines the entire
line as a high-priority risk, demanding attention and
mitigation. ||
