Semiotics
Semiotics is the study of how signs create meaning. Most
notations focus on Syntax (rules), but CLN focuses on
Pragmatics (purpose). A CLN sign doesn't just label
information; it guides how you process it.
01/The Semiotic Triad (Peirce)
In CLN, every operator functions as a complete sign system:
SIGNThe Form (!
symbol)
∆
OBJECTThe Concept
(Risk)
INTERPRETANTThe
Action (Alert)
02/The Three Dimensions (Morris)
System Levels
. 1.
Syntax: Rules and structure (Indentation/The
Ladder).
. 2.
Semantics: Meaning of symbols (Fixed contracts
for =, ., !).
. 3.
Pragmatics: Utility for the user (Guidance of
attention).
! Pragmatic
Goal: Resolve the "Prose Camouflage" problem.
03/Types of Signs
=
Icon: Resembles the object. (Indentation
looks like hierarchy).
=
Index: Points to the object. (The # Hash
points to context).
=
Symbol: Conventional meaning. (Operators like !
and =).
04Signs that do Work
* Active
Signs: In prose, signs are passive. In CLN,
they are tools.
+
Result: By choosing symbols with fixed intent,
we remove cognitive friction.
*
Self-Test: Is "!" just a bold label for "Risk"?
|| No. It is
a pragmatic trigger designed to demand attention and
initiate mitigation reasoning in both humans and AI.
