Extraneous Cognitive Load
Extraneous Cognitive Load is the mental effort imposed by the
format of information, rather than its content. It is the "friction" of
parsing bad sentences and searching for meaning. CLN v1.7
targets this load by using semantic operators and visual anchors to reduce
parsing tax to near zero.

Analysis
-
Split-Attention: Forcing the brain to jump
between text and keys to understand context.
-
Redundancy: Filler words that carry no semantic
weight (e.g., "It is important to note that...").
- Serial
Scanning: Reading every word in a paragraph
just to find one "Risk" or "Action".
03The CLN Strategy
CLN treats information as code. By providing a strict syntax, it offloads the "organizing" work from your brain to the page:
+
Pre-attentive Operators: Using
!
or . triggers immediate classification without deep
reading.+
Hierarchical Offloading: Indentation levels
physically represent logical depth, saving you from building the
mental tree.
★
ROI: Every second saved on parsing is a second
invested in Deep Work.

Self-Test: Is "White Space" in a document part
of Extraneous Load? || No. White
space (and CLN indentation) helps *reduce* Extraneous
Load by preventing visual crowding and aiding spatial
navigation. Dense, cluttered text increases load.
